Position Overview

 The role of the Director of Network Security is to provide leadership, and manage the day-to-day efforts of the Network Administration team. In addition, the Director of Network Security is responsible for implementing and administering a comprehensive and layered security posture that ensures the privacy and security of all organizational assets. The Director of Network Security also works closely with the Director of Core Systems and Senior Management, to ensure the delivery of IT strategy and goals, along with the integrity and availability of all IT systems.


 Essential Functions/Duties include:

  • Deliver stable, reliable, and cost effective infrastructure to support applications and services
  • Accountable for day-to-day operations of the mission critical infrastructure
  • Evolve the security posture of the company network by adapting new configurations to the overall system as new threats and techniques are identified
  • Define and develop the information security architecture for the IT environment
  • Manage day-to-day efforts of network security team members to deliver the strategy and goals of network security, ensuring confidentiality and integrity of the IT environment
  • Accountable for security incident response processes and activities
  • Monitor and routinely audit compliance to internal controls across departments
  • Monitor changes in local, state, and federal regulations and accreditation standards affecting information security, and make recommendations to appropriate management on the need for policy changes
  • Initiate, facilitate, and promote activities to create information security awareness throughout organization, such as providing security awareness training and testing for all internal personnel
  • Work with project team members to define information security requirements for all new major IT projects
  • Work toward balancing business goals and objectives with security requirements
  • Represent information security in change management activities
  • Participate in IT strategy planning activities, bringing a current knowledge and future vision of network security and industry best practices (e.g. NIST) as related to the security needs of the organization
  • Develop annual network security budget needs for review and approval from appropriate management
  • Develop bid specifications for the purchase of security products
  • Support the selection and monitoring of contractual agreements for network security services for the enterprise
  • Build and maintain vendor relationships, conducts positive negotiations, and manages the purchase of network security products
  • Maintain and track security equipment, records, and software licensing
  • Responsible for testing and enforcing network security policies, standards, practices, and procedures
  • Leads the IT team in disaster recovery preparation and response, system redundancy, and business continuity planning and testing
  • Oversee the hiring, development, and retention of network security team members. Assist senior IT leadership with the hiring, development, and retention of core systems team members as required
  • Monitor and document team member performance. Hold regular department and individual meetings to maintain open lines of communication
  • Work with network security team members to ensure that all elements of the information security architecture are in place and functioning as designed
  • Work with senior IT leadership to implement standards, procedures, and processes for the security group
  • Work with senior IT leadership to develop SLAs & KPIs to ensure network security excellence
  • Act as a liaison for internal and external examiners, and provide documentation as needed
  • Respond to audit and regulatory report findings. Research and implement remediation and/or mitigation strategies to resolve or satisfy regulatory requirements
  • Proactively works on aligning IT department systems and methodologies with current and applicable FFIEC and NCUA regulatory guidelines
  • Develop and present department business plans, and participate in periodic leadership development exercises


Minimum Requirements

  • At least 8 years of full-time experience in the role of Network Administrator, or equivalent, preferably working for a financial institution
  • At least 2 years of full-time leadership experience, either in the form of a management position, or a senior role consisting of mentoring, decision making, and project management, with an emphasis on team leadership
  • Bachelor's degree majoring in Computer Science or equivalent IT related discipline, or 10 years of related experience
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional desired but not required  
  • Ability to work overtime and/or weekends, if necessary
